The Annual Campaign: More Than A Number. We have an extra ordinary opportunity to ensure a brighter future
for the Wabash Valley—but we must take action today, and your support will make it possible. When you make a donation to the YMCA Annual Campaign, your generosity makes the Wabash Valley community better through programs focused on:
All kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve, under the guidance of caring adults who believe in their potential.
We help people and families build and maintain healthy habits for spirit, mind and body in their everyday lives. By helping kids, adults, families and seniors from all walks of life improve their health and well-being, we build a stronger community.
With our doors open to all, we bring together people from all backgrounds, and support those who need us most. We take on the most urgent needs in our community and inspire a spirit of service in return. We all demonstrate the power of what we can achieve by giving back together.

Clay County Promise
“The Promise Clay County Program will be a way to start changing the culture in our community,” said Promise Program Coordinator Tammy Kikta. “It will offer families a way to start planning for their college future through the use of a 529 savings program."
A 529 account can be used to pay for expenses that are related to education, including tuition expenses associated with college or other post-secondary training institutions. Eligible schools include any college, university, vocational school, or other post-secondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program administered by the U.S. Department of Education.
Contributors to the program currently include Eli Lilly, Wabash Valley Community Foundation, Guys Who Give, as well as additional anonymous community support. Donations to support the Promise are invested into each student’s 529 account beginning with $25 from the community. The child identifies champions who will also add $25 to the account. The community adds an additional $75 to the account, resulting in a minimum of $125.
At the end of the Program, CollegeChoice will send the money invested directly to the student’s school of choice. If the student decides not to attend, the money is deposited back into the community-owned 529 omnibus account. The account beneficiary can also be changed to a relative. The Promise Program is in line with the YMCA’s goal to better the community through Youth Development, Social Responsibility and Healthy Living. Donate today by calling 812-442-6761.
Clay Youth Food Program
The Clay County community has been helping to provide area youth with food and water since the summer of 2013. A group of volunteers in the education industry noticed several children who experienced weight loss over the summer. They wanted to help. The program initially served a little over 100 children each week. Now, during the summer months, the volunteers at First Baptist Church in Brazil see over 500 children stop by for food, water and support.
In the summer of 2013, the Clay County YMCA was able to offer free lunches to children through donations and community funding. However, nobody showed, so the Y collaborated with First Baptist Church and offered the food at the church. Still no one brought the children to eat, so First Baptist Church loaded up the lunches and started delivering. The Youth Food Summer Program was born.
The Clay County Youth Food Program served 24,318 meals to families in need in 2017. They have a regular group of volunteers for both Programs.
Those interested in volunteering have the opportunity to pack for the School on Wednesday evenings, or on weekdays from 10 am to 1:30 pm during the summer. Terry and the other lead volunteers are available via Facebook at Clay County Youth Food Program, and email firstname.lastname@example.org. Phone messages can also be left at the Clay County YMCA at 812-442-6761.
